Midweek musings...

I am thankful for progress.  In light of that statement, I kind of laugh at the discharge instructions from the my surgery that I would not be able to drive for 2 weeks.  I don't think I will be driving for quite awhile.  I truly am dependent on others right now.  I have more energy and probably have pushed myself a little too much a couple times this last week.  It sure was good to walk part of the golf course with Jason on Sunday.  The packing and repacking of the wound is the hardest now.  We will be seeing a stoma and wound nurse soon to get more attention to those areas.  The wound healing will be crucial to the chemo treatments that will slow down the process.

1 John 2:28-3:10 is our passage for this Sunday.  Sunday's call to wait on the anointing of the Holy Spirit was well received and I am anxious to hear of God's touch upon peoples' lives this week.  This passage starts with a great description of what has been bestowed upon us.  First we have been spiritual born; we have been given a name (children of God); we have a resemblance to Jesus by the behavior that we live; we have a future that includes Jesus appearing again and us seeing Him and being like Him; and we have a hope that purifies us as we live in a way that honors Him until His return.

John then goes to talking again about the deception that has crept into the church, that sin is okay.  He gives the universal fact that everyone who sins breaks the law.  The fundamental fact is that Jesus came with a purpose to deal with sin while having no sin.  The logical fact is to look at your actions to tell if you are for God or not.  Do I still cherish sin?  The loyalty fact is we are either for God or for Satan.  John puts it so eloquently that if we are filled up with God how can we be in the practice of sin?  If we are so filled with God even when we sin, the full force of that hits us to grieve and confess and repent and repair.  John calls it "evident" to be able to tell being a child of God and a child of devil.  "Doing is the test of being."
