Home and catching up...

After a great week at Alpena Family Camp, we are home to mow the lawn and tend to the garden and catch up paperwork and contacts at the church.  Even though you sometimes drag yourself to camp, God always gives times and people that let you know you are their for a reason larger than the duties you perform.  "Revelation Song" was the hit of the camp and I was thankful for a renewed friendship with the speaker this year.  Both Stephanie and I are so thankful not only for the unit we get to stay in there but also for a few days of down time between services.      Daniel is coming to life on Wednesday nights.  I have studied this book a long time ago and I have preached the common sermons from the big stories (lion's den, fiery furnace, etc.) but now I am looking at the in between passages.  The dream and the interpretation at the end of chapter 2 is amazing.  God gave Daniel a history lesson before it ever happened and it is a history lesson of all time.  Way before

Alpena Family Camp...

I have spent so many Father's Day preaching and then loading up the car to head to Alpena Family Camp and get there in time to set up the sound system and get ready for the evening service.  It is a pretty hairy day but I know that I will get some down time at the camp to just read and study.  Some good friends offer their camping unit for us to use and we are so thankful for its comforts.  This year we will be doing the music again.  I think I have held every position at camp except for cook and each has its benefits and joys.  Maybe a bike ride on the Chippewa trails might happen along with a trip in to walk the Lake Huron beach.      Tomorrow is a sermon on fasting.  Fasting and prayer always go together in the Bible and it is no surprise that Jesus teaches on how to pray and then on how to fast.  It will be good to go through the priority and period and principles of fasting against the many reasons the world has picked up this discipline.  I was amazed to come across s

The turns of life...

"A year ago..."  I don't know how many times I make that reference to how I am doing today. I know I feel better and healthier than ever but it amazes me at how many others come up to me and say things about my health that I don't know how to respond.  So I go into my recovery and talk about what I have learned over this whole process. www.StandUpForReligiousFreedom.com      Here is a link to a rally I was a part of today in town.  I had been hearing bits and pieces about the HHS Mandate but nothing really caught my attention until someone shared a view with me through a blog and then I turned around and shared it here.  Issues or values?  I have never been to a rally as such but it was interesting to see the ground swell of local people saying "no" to something the government is imposing and saying "yes" to God because of what is in the Word of God.  I feel we are a lot like Daniel who had his country taken away, his religious symbols tak

Well the weekend got busier and a new service...

I was just noticing that the last entry was incomplete because of what I didn't know.  Monday, Memorial Day started with us putting our son on the train in Grand Rapids to make his way back to Texas.  A call to us just before arriving back home from the 3 hour trip turned us around to head to Michigan City, Indiana to pick him up from the hospital.  A kidney stone shorten his trip and he had to be taken off the train.  So we got an extra week with him and tomorrow he starts the trip again.  We traveled the length of the state 4 times that day and we could have had him to Little Rock, Arkansas if we would have kept going.  The testimony is that God has recovered us to make those long hauls.      Tonight starts a new venture at the church for us.  Stephanie and I have always wanted to offer a second service at the church to give another opportunity to worship and study the Word.  We have noticed that those churches who go deeper with God offer a midweek worship service direct
