Psalm 141:3, 4

Today's verses are Psalm 141:3, 4 which says,

"Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Do not incline my heart to any evil thing,
To practice deeds of wickedness with men who do iniquity;
And do not let me eat of their delicacies."

Some observations:

Look at the emphasis of protection to something evil - to set a guard, keep watch, do not incline, to practice, do not let me eat - there is a calling out to God to help us to stay away and not participate in evil.

Look at the emphasis on the mouth - mouth, lips, eat - many sins come out of us through our lips but ultimately comes out of our hearts.

Look at the emphasis of others - with men, their delicacies - an association with others that leads to participation in what they do.

I do believe that in our world we need to dial back our involvement in what the world does and we need to ramp up our holiness to what God does.
It is so easy to get sucked into the world's ways and also allow them in the doors of the church and it takes a guard (a bouncer) at the door of our lives to keep out what should not be in there.
That takes us back to God who is the One who gives us the standard to live by that has been based off of His love for us.
