Proverbs 5:1, 2 says...

Today's verses are Proverbs 5:1, 2 which read,

1 "My son, give attention to my wisdom,
Incline your ear to my understanding;
2 That you may observe discretion
And your lip may reserve knowledge."

Let's look at some words here.
"give attention" - more than just to hear but to heed to
"wisdom" - it is more than knowing but also acting wisely
"incline" - the action of turning your ear, maybe our good ear to
"understanding" - again more than just knowledge but seen in practice
"observe" - to keep or to guard
"discretion" - deals with your thoughts, so guard your thoughts
"reserve" - to watch over
"knowledge" - to know

Do you see all the action in these two verses?  We are to heed (action) to acting (action) wisely and we are to turn (action) our ear to practiced (action) knowledge and we are to guard (action) our thoughts and watch over (action) what we take in to know.

It also deals with the two areas or the two senses that get us in the most trouble with sin initially, our ears and our lips and probably with the assistance of our eyes.  They are the portals to our soul.  What we take in with our ears and what we take in with our eyes usually comes out of our lips and James tells us all about the power of the tongue.  All the action in these two verses tell me this is not a passive action but an active one on our part.  I know it is all around us to take in what we should not but that makes it all the more reason to take action to not entertain it.  Don't make excuses for what God says to do and to be no matter how hard it is.
