Matthew 10:40-42...
Today's verses are Matthew 10:40-42 which reads,
"He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."
"receive" - to take by the hand - and the context of the passage is about full surrender to Christ - so they are taking by the hand your message of full surrender
"sent" - to go to a place appointed - we get our word apostle (sent one) from this word
The person who takes by the hand this message of total surrender from you is taking the hand of Jesus and the person who takes by the hand the message of total surrender from Jesus takes the hand of God who appointed His only begotten Son to come here.
Usually we don't think ourselves as a "prophet" - one who speaks for God (thus saith the Lord) and maybe not even a "righteous man" - one who observes divine laws (a saint) but Jesus says that even if you consider yourself a "disciple" (a learner, a pupil) of Christ, the weight of what you do and say matters.
Water is so needed in our lives. If you get dehydrated, it can be fatal. How needed is the message of Jesus, the message of total surrender to Him, in our lives. So many people are walking around dehydrated from not hearing or seeing that and you have the cold cup of water of that message within you and available to you because you have drank and continue to drink from that cup. Jesus is asking us to share that with others.
That cold cup of water - the message of total surrender to Jesus - comes with a great reward to all who drink of it. It is amazing to be in the presence of those who drink from the cup. It is amazing to be in the presence of someone who hears the message and takes it by the hand. Jesus is looking for His disciples to hand it out. And really, am I a fully devoted disciple of Him if I don't?
