Psalm 30:4, 5 says...
Today's verses are Psalm 30:4, 5 which read,
"Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning."
The question is "Why do we sing praise and why do we give thanks?"
Literally, "the flaring of God's nostrils" is "a wink of the eye;" compared to God's favor lasting a lifetime (forever and ever and ever). And then to say it another way, "the shedding of tears" may "lodge" for the night, but an "overcoming cry" comes "at the break of day."
A lot of imagery and words the invoke a picture to help us see why we set time aside individually and as a church to lift up the name of Jesus. We praise Him now but look forward to the day that we will praise His name forever and in His presence.
