Psalm 100 says...
Today's verses are Psalm 100:1-5 which reads...
1 - Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth.
2 - Serve the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing.
3 - Know that the LORD Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 - Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
5 - For the LORD is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.
This is a very well known Psalm. It has been used many times for "calls to worship" in many sanctuaries over the years. It is one of thousands of times in the Bible that we are instructed and commanded to worship the Lord. It is instructed and commanded but it is to come out of us as a natural out flow of what has happened within us.
Let us look at the verbs this morning.
"Shout" - to raise a sound, cry out
"Serve" - to work
"Come" - to go in, enter
"Know" - to learn to know, confess, recognize
"Enter" - the same word as "come"
"Give" - to throw, cast
"Bless" - kneel
Try inserting some of these definitions into the text and see if you get a deeper or more of a visual of what is going on here.
Now a look at the last verse...
Do you see a pattern here? When we talk about God, when we try to describe Him, even our words are not sufficient to do so. We have to combine our earthly words to get a fuller description of Him and yet it still falls short. God truly is great. Maybe that is why when it comes to praise, it cannot just be contained in our words but our actions (physical posture) need to be added to the mix.

Now a look at the last verse...
- "For the LORD is good;..." - this is the same word used in the creation account when God spoke of His creation "and it was good."
- "...His lovingkindness is everlasting..." - goodness, kindness, faithfulness all wrapped up in one word - my computer will indicate that there should be a hyphen in there between loving and kindness but there is no hyphen when it comes to God.
- "...and His faithfulness to all generations." - firmness, fidelity, steadfastness, and steadiness are for all people groups throughout all time.
