Proverbs 3:23-26 says,...

Today's verses are Proverbs 3:23-26, which read,

v.23 - Then you will walk in your way securely and your foot will not stumble.

What a great promise given by God.  If we follow after the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God we will walk securely through this life.  Our steps will be sure because they are in the footprints of His.  We will not stumble because we are continuing to keep active in our pursuit of Him and His ways.

This does not mean that the way will not be hard or that there will not be struggles, persecutions or sufferings for the Scriptures tells us that there will.  What this proverb is telling us is that in the midst of those dilemmas, we can walk secure and not stumble as we hold to His wisdom through it all.

Don't wish to just be happy but rather pursue to be holy after God and the result is not a feeling that comes and goes with the external circumstances but a faith that stands and moves forward through them.  You want that kind of faith that stands upon the facts of God so that your feelings will be based on Him and not yourself.

v.24 - When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

This is another word picture of a life that is at peace with God.  When we lie down we know that we are in the hands of God.  When we lie down we can physically rest of the circumstances because God is in control and we are following what He says to do.

Rest is so important to the physical body.  We get cranky if we don't get enough.  We are less productive when we burn the candle at both ends.  We hinder the body from its own healing properties that God designed in it.  Our spiritual rest is also important.  We achieve it by following after the wisdom of God.  We receive spiritual rest as we keep our hand firmly in His with our words, thoughts, and deeds.  If you are spiritually tired then you probably are neglecting something God has been already impressing on you that needs to change to be in step with Him.

v.25, 26 - Do not be afraid of sudden fear nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes; for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

Notice that wicked will come and sudden fear also.  It is a given that you will have to deal with some wicked situations and some fearful situations that come all of a sudden.  We are told not to be afraid.  The angel told Mary, "fear not" and actually that was a common phrase of the angels and Jesus to others when approaching them.  Don't be afraid because in sudden fear and wicked situations you can stand on the fact that the Lord will be your confidence.

I am not in this corner without God.  I am not in this state when I totally don't understand without God.  I am not under attack from evil without God.  If I am following after the wisdom of God, God is with me and I stand firmly on Him and take that next step in line in the footprint of Him.  I do not vary from the path to the right or to the left but I seek His footprint to place my foot knowing that is the most secure place on the planet.  Wickedness and sudden fear are faced off with the following of the wisdom of God.  Let's pray.

"Lord, help us to see Your footprints so that we take that next step into Your footprint.  When it is wicked and when there is sudden fear may we not put confidence in the plans of men but in Your holy plans for our lives.  Thank You for the walk of security and the sleep of sweetness. Amen."
