Proverbs 1:24-27 says,...
Today's verses are Proverbs 1:24-27, which read,
v.24, 25 - Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention; and you neglected all my counsel and did not want my reproof;...
The wisdom of the parents to the children in this passage is coming from the Lord. This Lord is active in our lives and not passive. This Lord is calling out to us. This Lord is stretching out His hand to us. This Lord is coming more than half way but all the way to send His Son to die on the cross to demonstrate His love for us for a relationship to happen.
What was done with the call and the stretching out of the hand? It was refused, paid no attention to, neglected, and not wanting correction. When the wisdom was given and made known the fool refused to listen. When the wisdom was available through trusted counsel the fool turned the channel. When the wisdom came with direction tailored to the situation at hand the fool turned his feet another way. When the wisdom was made plain with a plan to correct the fool still desired his own way over God's way.
"God's not dead, He's fully alive" is a popular song that is displayed in these verses. He is actively intervening in our lives if we will accept, grab a hold of His hand, listen to His counsel, and follow His correction plan. The wise will do this that is the direct opposite of the actions of the fool.
v.26, 27 - ...I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes, when your dread comes like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.
What we are doing to God, God will do to us. Isn't that fair? If we deny His wisdom then when our wisdom fails in the face of His given wisdom shouldn't He have a response? It might be hard to accept but you have done the same things to Him first.
Your wisdom will end in calamity, dread, distress, and anguish. The wheels will come off the bus. You will have wished you would have chosen a different route. Your countenance will be that of one depressed. Your stress level will hit an all time high. None of these are desired but we all have experienced them if you have refused, paid no attention, neglected, and not wanted God's wisdom in your life and situation.
The passage is not done but will have to come on our next devotional of more of the ramifications of what is coming upon us because we have refused the outstretched hand of God. It will turn around to doing what is right but we need to see our wrong to have a need for a Savior to set things right that we can not do ourselves. Do you see salvation in these Scriptures? Do you see the gospel? Let's pray.
"Lord, I am thankful that You are active and not passive. I am thankful that You speak through Your Word to us. I am thankful that the wisdom You want us to know is not just words and bits of advice but also a beloved Son who embodied a life of wisdom of following after His Father's will. May we do the opposite of the fool today and when we hear Your wisdom that we would be wise to grab onto it firmly with both hands. Amen."
