VBS wrapup 2

My heart was about to burst yesterday as I looked at a full church from the front to the back.  It was full of love as a viewed a platform full of children singing about Jesus.  I know that the children heard a clear gospel message from many of the VBS staff.  We were open with the message of the cross.

Just like the Ninevites, we need to believe in God and repent of our sins to follow after Christ.  Just like the king, that salvation puts us all looking the same as we take off our royal robes and put on sackcloth.  We are all sinners in need of a Savior.  Just like Jonah, we need to have a heart for what God sees and what God desires.

Our task is not done in the telling which could be done purely out of cold hearted duty but it goes onto the teaching elements of the Great Commission.  Those require us to come alongside of those who have heard about this Jesus and sharing of ourselves with them through discipleship.  This can not be done purely out of cold hearted duty.  You have to have heart for those who are in front of you and alongside of you.  You have to put them before you.

What is next on the docket of the church?  We now look forward to a summer that will include some of our kids and teens going to Kids Klub camp.  Our Honduras Team will ship out on July 1st and be back on the 11th with a report on Sunday, July 24th.  Our town will come marching by the church on July 10th and we are hoping to have a witness for Christ presented.  We have some church supported missionaries, the Liberaks, coming in August for a weekend, August 12-14.  We will throw an all-church picnic into the mix at the park and at least 4 Overflow gatherings.

Union, lets be intentional with this faith we have received that Jesus was so intentional in His own actions to make possible.  Lets follow after His lead and know we are standing on solid ground as we do because He is already ahead of us creating the path for us to follow.  Let's pray.

"Lord, what a responsibility that You have designed to be upon Your church to share Your message with the world.  May we have a heart that is full of compassion, passion in action, for those You will put around us this summer.  If we find ourselves separated from the mission field like Jonah was up on that hill, ask us some tough questions to why we are acting this way when we know that You wouldn't be do that.  Enlarge our hearts to love even more.  Amen."
