2 Peter 1:16-18 says,...

Today's verses are 2 Peter 1:16-18, which read,

v.16 - For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

As Peter is telling them about Jesus, he is letting them know where this information is coming from.  It is coming from himself and his eyewitness time with Jesus.  He was not creating stories to make Jesus look better.  Hmmmm....so Peter saw that his personal testimony of Jesus was more effective than the schemes of the day that false teachers were using to gather a crowd and a following.  There is probably a big lesson for us personally and also a church here about what our main focus should be on when trying to reach out to others with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

v.17, 18 - For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased"--and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

Peter is referring to the event of the Mount of Transfiguration in Matthew 17:5.  This was a specific event that Peter was a part of when he saw Jesus glorified with Elijah and Moses and also heard the voice of God speaking of His Son.  That event made an impact on Peter that he is sharing with his readers.

The point here for me is the question, "Do I share with others my events with Jesus?"  If you are a follower of Christ, you are recognizing God's hand in your life and at times overwhelmed by His love and action.  "Am I sharing those with others, my personal impact moments with God?"

Many times we will share other people's stories and there are some great ones.  This Christmas I heard one about the mandolin that was given as payment for a job completed because the widow had no money.  The mandolin was sold for $2000.00 when the bill was only $60.00.  The contractor took the money back to the widow and took out only the $60.00 and gave her the $1940.00.  She returned with an outstanding bill from the funeral home that she could also not pay and showed him that it was exactly $1940.00!

That story is great and true but Peter is saying in this passage that his personal encounter with Jesus is what he is sharing and what will have the most lasting impact because it can be verified by his life.  My personal story can not only be shared but can be verified in my actions and actions in front of those who God is placing in my path.

"God, help me to see the 'openings' that you are giving me to share some of 'my' events with You with others.  Amen."
