Proverbs 6:12-15 says,...
Today's verses are Proverbs 6:12-15, which read,
v.12-14 - A worthless person, a wicked man, is the one who walks with a perverse mouth, who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who points with his fingers; who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil, who spreads strife.
Solomon is giving instruction and wisdom to his sons about some people not to get tied up with. The first are those who want you to sign your name to their responsibility but they are not too concerned about fulfilling their responsibility and you are left hanging onto their bag. The second is the sluggard who does not prepare for the future and sleeps rather than attends to the important things of life.
Now Solomon gives us a list of characteristics of another who uses flattery to cover up an ungodly agenda. They use their language to say things that are perverse, distorted or crooked. They use their body to give off false impressions. A wink gives you the impression that there is more to the message than what they just said. They walk seemingly in the way that is right and they can point to all the right things or say just what you want to hear but it is a scam. All of these are signals to others who might be in on what their agenda is that you don't know to trap you into it. Do you see now why Solomon would call them worthless and wicked?
The spreading of strife is a serious matter. It is the sin of discord, dissent, and creating conflict intentionally. It comes from deep within and is very well planned and not just a slip of the tongue. That slip of the tongue has a long root of planning of how to cause division. With strife, the goal is to spread it. Something is said for the purpose of it "getting around" and this is one of the biggest destroyers of the unity within the church. Solomon is instructing us to stay clear of those who have these characteristics and agendas.
v.15 - Therefore his calamity will come suddenly; instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.
When this person gets caught there should be immediate action to expose what was done and said to protect others who would be his or her next victims. God will judge us all and He will punish those who practice such things. Sometimes God's judgement doesn't wait until the final judgement. Sometimes God acts suddenly like with Ananias and Sapphire very quickly and instantly. "You are playing with fire" and sometimes the fire is God watching what you are doing and saying that is not holy.
We are warned to stay away from these types of people but we are also not be these types of people. We need to be very aware when we use any of these practices to get our way. We are operating under the influence of Satan when we spread strife and there is a perversity in our heart that needs to be purged otherwise God's judgement is coming. Christians, the proverb today is that we are not to take advantage of others, period. Those who do are worthless and wicked, two words we should stay away from and not be. Let's pray.
"Lord, again thank You for the warnings in Scripture. Help us to not only look out but look within. Help us to see what are real agenda is and if we find it not to be loving You and loving others to repent so we can see it changed to the agenda of a follower of You. Amen."
