Proverbs 5:7-14 says,...

Today's verses are Proverbs 5:7-14, which read,

v.7 - Now then, my sons, listen to me and do not depart from the words of my mouth.

Solomon is going to be talking to his sons about something very important.  It is like he is saying to them these sentences.  I want you to listen.  I want to see your eyes when I am talking to you.  I want you to turn off any electronic devices and focus on what I am about to say.  These words are not to be filed away but readily available to use by you when you walk away from my presence.  These are to be followed with the strictest obedience.  What are these words of instruction?

v.8-12a - Keep your way far from her and do not go near the door of her house, or you will give your vigor to others and your years to the cruel one; and strangers will be filled with your strength and your hard-earned goods will go to the house of an alien; and you groan at your final end, when your flesh and your body are consumed; and you say,...

I stopped before the response of someone who did not follow the instruction given to look at the issue at hand.  The topic is back to the adulteress.  There is a high price to sexual infidelity and also a high price to infidelity with your relationship with the Lord.  I think we know the price of going against God's created order for the only holy and God honoring sexual relationship offered in Scripture so lets look at the other angle of being unfaithful to our relationship with Him.

When we are unfaithful to God in our relationship with Him then we are going through the door of how Satan wants us to live.  The vigor that we would have used to serve the Lord is given to others and the years that could have been used to glorify God with our words and actions are being used by the evil one for his wide road way agenda.  It will not be the family of God who benefits from our efforts but strangers of God's fold who will not be given light and salt to draw near to God because our focus is not there.  Our efforts that could have been used on the God given good works created by Him will go to lesser efforts that have temporal results rather than eternal ones.  At the end of life we will realize the error of our words and ways and have regret for the way we have lived our lives and who it was really for.  We will cry out.

v.12b-14 - "...How I have hated instruction!  And my heart spurned reproof!  I have not listened to the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to my instructors!  I was almost in utter ruin in the midst of the assembly and congregation."

In regret we will see how we should have loved the instruction of the Lord.  We should have embraced it even the parts that put correction in place in our lives.  We should have listened to the God given teachers and instructors that He put around us and ordered our lives to be continually fed by them.  We now realize this and still can participate in the God honoring path following of the saints but we wasted a lot of our lives on the way of Satan.  We have this opportunity to reap the benefits of being a part of a family of God and seeing what God's salt and light can do but we regret that the instruction and reproof given by Him went on deaf ears and minds filled with other agendas other than His perfect one.

Again, the warning can and should be directed to the physical dangers of not following God's design of the relationship between a man and woman in a holy union but that union is to represent another relationship of God and His people.  How we treat our spouse is how we treat our God.  Let's think on these things today.  Let's pray.

"Lord, Solomon focused on the main relationship other than our relationship with You in the Scriptures given.  You give us plenty of instruction on how we are to treat our God given mate to show us how we are to treat You.  There are so many dangers of going outside of that God ordained and created circle of marriage and there are so many dangers of going outside of the path You have ordained for us to walk. Help us to keep far from Satan and the door of his house so our efforts given by You will be to glorify You today.  Amen."
