1 Corinthians 15:20-28 says....

Today's verses are 1 Corinthians 15:20-28, which read,

v.20-22 - But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.  For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.  For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

Yesterday Paul gave us the domino effect of the faith when we do not hold fast to one part of it.  The Christians in the church in Corinth were not holding fast to the resurrection of the dead.  The domino effect goes like this.  If one does not believe in the resurrection of the dead then Jesus didn't resurrect from the dead.  If Jesus didn't resurrect from the dead then Paul's and Jesus' teaching was in vain.  If Paul's and Jesus' teaching was in vain then your faith is in vain.  If your faith is in vain then Paul and Jesus were false teachers for teaching the resurrection of the dead.  If Paul and Jesus were false teachers then you are still in your sins.  If you are still in your sins then your loved ones who are dead who also believed the same message have truly completely perished.  If your loved ones have truly completely perished then you are to be the most pitied to have this faith in Christ in this life only.

Paul opens up another huge illustration today that he will use over and over and that is the comparison better the first man Adam and the first man of the resurrection Jesus.  Just as we follow Adam's example with physical death, we will also follow Jesus' example with physical resurrection.  With the evidence of Jesus rising from the dead as the first then He is the first of those who believed in Him who will also be resurrected.

v.23-25 - But each in his own order:  Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.  For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.

There is an order to God.  First Christ is resurrected as the first fruits with more to come.  Those who are Christ's at His second coming will be later fruits to be resurrected.  Jesus will hand over the kingdom to God after He has put all His enemies under His feet.  The one, Satan, who is creating all these divisions and factions even in the church will be abolished by Jesus.

v.26-28 - The last enemy that will be abolished is death.  For He has put all things in subjection under His feet.  But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.  When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.

Because Satan has used the fear of death to lead so many astray, even death will be abolished for those who are in Christ.  At that point Jesus who was subjected to the will of the Father to be sent here to die for our sins so that we might have eternal life will complete the task given by the Father so God's will will be "all in all."

Paul has given the Christians in the church in the Corinth a beautiful picture of what is to come.  Jesus' risen body, which was witnessed by so many, is the domino that we hold fast in the upright position so that we might see the completion of all things God.  Who is feeding these thoughts of "no resurrection" will also be put to death and also the message that he, Satan, promotes.  Complete true peace will come.

"Lord, what a day that will be.  We do not hold fast to just a what in the resurrection but to a Who in You who first physically resurrected to the Father like we will someday when You return.  May God's will be made complete through the perfectly following of His will by You.  Amen."
