1 Corinthians 2:6-9 says...
Today's verses are 1 Corinthians 2:6-9 which reads,
Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; but just as it is written, "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him."
Paul gives us yet another long run-on sentence but maybe it isn't so in the Greek language. Paul wants the Corinthian Christians not to toss out all wisdom or that he isn't giving them wisdom but to seek and put into action the wisdom of God. This is a wisdom not from man who will pass away but from God who is eternal and even God's words will not pass away.
Paul also gives us the power of that wisdom from God. It is hidden as a mystery to be revealed. This was God's plan. At some point in our lives, predestined by God, it would be revealed to us and we would see Jesus for who He is just like the thief on the cross who called out to Jesus for salvation.
This wisdom is so compelling when it is revealed. The rulers of the day that crucified Jesus would not have done so if they would have had the mystery of God's wisdom revealed to them. They would have defended Him and bowed to Him instead of taking Him to trial and having Him crucified. It would have transformed them and it did in the future for some of them who after the resurrection accept that He was the Messiah.
Paul quotes from Isaiah 64:4 at the end of this section. In context to our passage, the "things" would be the wisdom of God that is not yet revealed to some as what is not seen by the eyes and not heard from the ears. Therefore, the "things", the wisdom of God yet to be revealed has not entered the heart where transformation of a person takes place there because God tills that soil. The parable of the soils come through again with the phrase "all that God has prepared for those who love Him." It is God who prepares the heart to accept the revealed mystery of His wisdom. God is the Tiller of the soil of men and women's hearts.
You understand and accept God because He made it possible for you to do so. God made the first move on you knowing who He is. Hmmmm.....
"Lord, thank You for a Saturday morning with all of its possibilities and thank You for the anticipation of a Sunday morning to be with Your family in the house of God. Prepare our hearts and minds today for what You have laid out before us. You are going ahead of us through this day and so may we look for Your footprints to follow through our words and actions. Amen."
