1 Corinthians 2:10-13 says...
Today's verses are 1 Corinthians 2:10-13, which read,
v.10 - For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.
What a great verse Paul gives us through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Paul is "carried along" by the Spirit of God to have penned the very words of God to us. The Spirit of God reveals to us God, the unknown God to us at one time. A God revealed and not only revealed but deeply revealed. This is why, you as a Christian, can go back to that Bible and that same passage that you read so many times and maybe even memorized and see something new.
v.11 - For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God, no one knows except the Spirit of God.
We have our own thoughts and we are the only ones who know those thoughts unless we share them with others. They are contained within us until we choose to share them with others. In the same way, the thoughts of God are contained with Him, even though we have the words of God in front of us. We don't really understand them until the Spirit of God speaks with our spirit about the thoughts of God contained in those words. This is when the words of God jump off the page at us. It is more than knowledge or even memorization, it is God supernaturally speaking through His words to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is an act of God and by God to you when you as a Christian open up your Bible during your times of personal and corporate worship.
v.12, 13 - Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.
We have been given something. It is not the thoughts of the world but the thoughts of God. What are we to do with it? We are to speak it. We are to sow it. We are to put that lit lamp on the stand. Paul is trying to explain to the Corinthian Christians the depth of the words of God and the importance of them. God's words are to be heard as from God and not just as they are Paul's words from Paul's mouth.
A church that believes that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God has an opportunity every Sunday to hear from God's word collectively from their local shepherd servant leader. That humble local shepherd servant leader opens up not just any book but the Book called the Bible and the Spirit of God helps our spirits to hear and know God more. An act of God will happen this morning that we need each day individually but that we also need as a group each week. Something really great happens each Sunday morning because we get to hear through the Holy Spirit from God.
"Lord, I know that Paul has much more to say the Christians in Corinth as You have so much more to say to us. May our view of the scriptures that You have given us continue to rise. They are Your very words to us, preserved by You over the years, and aided by You through the Spirit of God so we can more fully understand and know You. Amen."
