Proverbs 9:1-6 says,...

Today's verses are Proverbs 9:1-6, which read,

v.1-3 - Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars; she has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table; she has sent out her maidens, she calls from the tops of the heights of the city:...

We are back to wisdom and the description of what wisdom is like.  We are to receive instruction from the Lord and this comes through His Word and also by those that He places into our lives to instruct us in it, mainly the family of God you are a part of.  Solomon gives us another word picture to go through.

Wisdom has built a house.  It is not being built but has been built and that dwelling place is secure.  The seven pillars, seven being the number in the Bible for being complete, have been carved out specifically to do the job of supporting this structure.  The foundation of wisdom is complete and strong to accomplish what it was created to do.

You are now in the wisdom house and you are sitting down at a meal.  It is not a fast food meal.  It is a meal that has been prepared from scratch.  It is a meal that even the drink has been carefully put together rather than something just whipped up at the last minute.  It is a meal that calls people together and formal invitations have went out by her personal ambassadors.

It is an invitation that is public and not private.  It is an invitation that whoever accepts will receive the benefits of wisdom.  They will be able to reside in this well built house and sit down to a meal that is very well prepared.  The call or invitation has gone out to come and the question is "Will they come?"

The wisdom of God is secure and has been hewn out by Him and the table is set by His wisdom for people to partake in its nourishment.  He is very vocal to the world about the invitation to be within His house and at His table through His ambassador, His One and only Son, Jesus Christ.

v.4-6 - ..."Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!"  To him who lacks understanding she says, "Come, eat of my food and drink of the wine I have mixed.  Forsake your folly and live, and proceed in the way of understanding."

It is an open invitation to us for we were all foolish at one time.  We all needed a time to be invited to God's house and His table for His meal.  We were residing in someone else's not well built house and eating some thrown together leftovers.  The author of wisdom is the one who has prepared for what you are about to partake in.  Will you come?

In the process of accepting the invitation you will have to forsake, or leave, the place you were residing before.  You will have to stop eating what you were eating before.  You will have to get up from that place to come to this new place prepared for you.  The invitation involves making a change.

I have met people who say they have accepted the invitation but they are still trying to live in the old house with the cold food.  They are still living in a non-forsaken state.  The invitation is to come but it is also to leave behind those things that the foolish do.  What house are you in this morning?  What kind of meal are you sitting down to?  Are you residing in a place that allows the solid wisdom of God to shelter everything you say or do?  Are you sitting down to a meal of wisdom with others who are doing the same to take in its nourishment to continue on the path God has laid out for you to follow?

What needs to be forsaken in your life?  What needs to be laid aside so you can take ahold of God's wisdom with both hands?  Let go of it.  As long as you hold onto what needs to be forsaken then you will reside in Satan's run down shack about to come down and eat a meal that is all sugar and no substance.  Wisdom is well prepared for us to live out.  God has thought about everything we will need.  Let's pray.

"Lord, prepare our hearts this morning as we gather with Your family.  Help us to let go of any foolish way that is hindering us from following hard after You.  Point out the dwelling place that we are in and the food we are eating and may we hear Your invitation to take a two handed hold on Your wisdom.  Amen."
