Colossians 2:13-15 says...

Today's verses are Colossians 2:13-15, which read,

v.13, 14 - When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Paul takes us back as we go forward.  Yesterday was the focus on our salvation in Christ by looking at Him and who He is.  We have been circumcised by Him for He cut off sin from us by His obedient sacrifice on the cross for the glory of God.  We are baptized and raised in Him through the faith given us by the working of God to live a changed life reflecting Him.

To go forward we look back to our previous state.  We were dead in our transgressions or sins.  We were dead.  We were not partially alive or on the brink of death.  We were dead and needing to be resurrected, brought back from the dead.  We were dead because the sinful nature that we were born with was still present because we were yet to be circumcised of it.

Jesus made you alive.  He did it and not you.  Jesus brought you back from the dead.  How?  He forgave us of our sins; He cancelled out the certificate of debt; and He nailed it to the cross.  The forgiveness of God, our Creator has been granted to us.  The record of our wrongs was erased clean.  It was erased clean by His nailing it to the cross with His own physical body.  There was a price to be paid for you to have a right relationship with God and it was a costly price that you received because of what He did.  Without it, you are still dead with no hope of reviving yourself because you can't, only He can do that.

v.15 - When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

What happened on the cross with the nailing of Himself as the canceling debt of our sin disarmed Satan and his demons.  Satan has no power or authority over you who are saved by the blood of the Lamb.  You are His child, circumcised by Him: baptized in Him; and raised for Him.

It is recorded that after Jesus' death, His living, divine Spirit went to the place of demons and announced His triumph and you can find this in 1 Peter 3:18, 19.  I in vision that meeting with Jesus shouting triumphantly "These are Mine!"  He had triumphed over Satan through His obedience to the plan of God for the glory of God.  Jesus' death did just the opposite to Satan's plan.  Satan thought it was victory for him but it was victory for us and doom for him.  Our physical death therefore will not be doom but it will be victory because of Jesus' death for us on the cross.  Is your gratitude growing and becoming overflowing with what you received as a dead person?  Let's pray.

"Lord, we want to take some credit for our goodness but we cannot.  We were not created by ourselves, we were created by You.  We were not saved by ourselves, we were saved by You.  We did not pay any of the price or could we because of sin, You paid it all.   We want to take some credit but we can't because none are righteous, no not one.  You alone are good and Your goodness was voluntarily given to us through faith for us to receive as a gift.  Lord, what a price You paid for me.  Amen."
