1 John 5:10-12 says,...

Today's verses are 1 John 5:10-12, which read,

"The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son.  And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."

John has been continuing to talk about the genuine Christian.  The genuine Christian has not only the testimony of God which is greater than the testimony of man but that testimony is within us.  Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us but also to be reminder of Him and what He has said.

I think it is a serious condition to call God a "liar."  This person is saying to God that he doesn't believe that God sent His Son Jesus to provide salvation and eternal life.  "God did not do this," is basically their stand.

John goes so much farther with this statement to mirror his writing in John 14:6 that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but through Him.  "He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."  It is impossible to have eternal life without Jesus.

We live in this world of so many options.  The cereal aisle at the grocery store boasts of scores of choices to be made about what to eat in the morning.  I have learned to read labels on those boxes to find out what is best for me, so there are choices even within the choices.  This is fine with cereal but not with God.

There might be an aisle of religion that has many choices.  You can read the labels of them to see where they come from and who was their leader.  You can compare the outcomes.  But when it comes to God and eternal life, there is only one box on the shelf and that is Jesus Christ.  There are no other boxes on the shelf on this aisle.  You will either pick it up and put it in your cart or you will pass it by and go to another aisle.  Maybe a poor illustration but those who have gone down that aisle and picked up the only box and it is labeled "Jesus" know God and what God has provided.

"Lord, thank You for the evidence and testimony that are within me.  The joy You bring to my life.  The Scripture that You put in my hands.  The love for others that You have put in my heart.  The life purpose of bringing glory to You with my life.  Thank You for giving of Yourself through Your Son Jesus Christ so I might experience actual life.  Amen."
