Back home together...

Every once in a while Steph and I are in different places for the weekend and it is so great to get back home.  This weekend took her on the yearly pilgrimage to a winter retreat with the teens and I was home tending the fires and holding down the service at the church.

I sure miss her when she is not there on the front row but it is great to be used in many areas of ministry.  She came home excited about the retreat and all that the teens got to experience along with the messages and the music.  I got to tell her about another great Sunday morning worship with an opportunity to see another go off into ministry and also share pictures and stories about another going off to his eternal home. 

The sermon this Sunday dealt with how we are to live in this world while we are part of another.  The idea of being law-abiding citizens opens up some doors for us to witness about Christ and takes down some walls as we love people as Christ would love them.  Jesus didn't have to pay the temple tax.  He was probably the only One on the planet that was truly exempt but He did anyways to keep the door open with the tax collectors.  I will obey the laws of the land unless they go directly against the Words of Scripture but most of them do not so I have many more times to obey than not. 

So a funeral message and a Sunday message this week and we lose an hour!!!  So I guess I better get to work.

  Another week closer and it involves some more travel for the Wolfgangs.  I feel like the Willy Nelson song, " On the road again... "  I don't know if I agree with the next line though. God gave us a good weather window to travel...yeah God!!!

  Berthoud Pass Here we are at the top of Berthoud Pass.  It was a whirlwind week to conduct a " hand off " service in Wisconsin on 3/17 and then preach a Palm Sunday sermon in Colorado on 3/24.  We give God all the glory for this happening.  So there are two video links at the bottom of this blog.  One is for the Wisconsin service and the other is for the Colorado service.  I racked up over 12,000 in the last 7 weeks.   I love to take these pictures sitting from the front row of chairs and listening to the one God has provided for the church I had been serving for 20 months.  I now have 3 and I am so thankful for the opportunity God gave us to serve Him in this type of ministry over the last 5 years.  It has been great to add to our daily prayer list Zach in Maine, Chris in Ohio and now Stephen in Wisconsin. Connect a bit of Scripture with a bit of life - Spurgeon

     I heard this phrase today along with another that if you connect a bit of Scripture with a bit of life, it will end up effecting all of your life.  This came up in my study of the book of James and specifically the verses dealing with not just being a hearer of the Word but also be a doer of the Word.  It is all about application.  I can't look at preaching the Word without giving steps of applying the Word.  It really is an incomplete sermon if I don't.      Many times I think it has to be big and many points and given cute aliteration that makes it snappy and I think easy to remember and fun to write down.  Reality is, if I would make it a bit of Scripture connected to a bit of life and just that it would probably accomplish much more.  How much time I spend on the opening statement and lame joke and research and introductions and how many points and the closing statement and so little time on connecting the bit of Scripture to the bit of life.      So I guess I ha
