Coming to the Still Waters

Today's verses are Galatians 3:15-18, which read, v.15 - Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations:  even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. When you make a human deal, you stick to the terms of the deal.  When you shake on it or sign on the dotted line, the agreement is the agreement.  Maybe even better, when you with a loved one giving you a request on their death bed, you follow it to a "t" to accomplish what they have asked. v.16 - Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed.  He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ. Paul says there has been a deal done between not man and Abraham but God and Abraham.  If you follow through on man's deals, what about when God's deals?  Paul also starts to get technical here with the words of the deal.  God did not say ...

Today's verses are Galatians 3:10-14, which read, v.10-12 - For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the Law, to perform them."  Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "The righteous man shall live by faith."  However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "He who practices them shall live by them." Paul is continuing to complete this truth about the Law and about faith. Point number one is found in Deuteronomy 27:26 that those who are trying to keep every law of the Law will not only fail at the attempt but you will be cursed for trying to work to get your salvation. Point number two is found in Habakkak 2:4 that it is a biblical fact that the people of God will live by faith. Today's verses are Galatians 3:6-9, which read, Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.  Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham.  The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "All the nations will be blessed in you."  So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer. There has been no other way to salvation in Christ than faith and this is shown all the way back to the father of the Jews, Abraham.  In the book of Romans, Paul expands on this thought by showing the time that Abraham had faith in God prior to the sign of the faith, circumcision.  That sign of faith was just that, a sign and not faith itself.  The Old Testament teaches that we are justified with God by faith and so this message is not only Biblical but it is old.
