Ephesians 1:15-17 says,...

Today's verses are Ephesians 1:15-17, which read,

For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

This is one long sentence coming from Paul to the Christians in the church in Ephesus.  Paul identifies with them as someone who has heard and responded to the faith in the Lord.  The gospel message was given to them and it is evident of its saving faith because they are loving the saints, God's family.  One of the fruits that you have saving faith is that you will have an increasing love for the family of God that you are a part of.

Not only is Paul identifying with the Christians in Ephesus in faith in Jesus Christ but also thanking God for them and praying for them.  He is praying to God who gave us His One and only Son Jesus Christ.  He is actually mentioning them in his prayers.  He is speaking of them specifically.  Maybe Paul has a little scroll with the names of the churches on it that he has visited with the gospel and ones he is planning on going to and unrolling it each morning and night to pray down that list.  This is a practice that we continue to follow as a way to show that we truly do love the saints, God's family, around us and abroad.

What is Paul praying about for them?  He is praying that they would be increasing in wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God.  Wisdom is knowledge applied.  Paul is praying that the Christians in Ephesus would increase their knowledge of God so that they would also increase in applying wisdom and proclamation of who God is to others.  Applying wisdom would be called "living a holy life" and revelation would be using those opportunities that God gives us to be ambassadors and lights for Him that we would.  Where does this wisdom and revelation come from?  The increase comes from our knowledge of Him.

The saved, loving the saints, Christians in Ephesus are being prayed for by Paul to continue to know more of God through the study of Him so that the knowledge of Him can be applied through wisdom and spoken of through revelation.  I am challenged again to ask myself if I am praying this for those that I have on my little scroll that I unroll each morning and night.  Our next study will continue on with more of this prayer that Paul has for the Ephesians but this is enough to focus on for the day.

"Lord, may I pray more for the spiritual lives of those around me.  May I not neglect to pray for growth in the holiness of our lives because we have spent more time with You.  May I pray for opportunities of revelation to be given to myself and Your family to speak of You.  May we pray for spiritual victories and growth among the body of Christ.  Amen."
