Coming to the Still Waters

Today's verses are Proverbs 14:32-35, which read, v.32 - The wicked is thrust down by his wrongdoing, but the righteous has a refuge when he dies. Have you noticed how the language dealing with the wicked always seems to have a harshness to it and an extremeness to the action.  This verse says the wicked is thrust down.  He doesn't just fall down or trip but is shoved down by his wrongful actions.  In contrast, the language used for the righteous seems to have a protective quality to it.  This verse says the righteous will have refuge when he dies.  There will be a shelter given when this physical life is over.  It doesn't mean that the righteous will not experience pain and sorrow during this life but something is protectively secure at his or her death.  To be shoved down by your own doing or to be gently covered or carried to safety at your death, which do you desire? v.33 - Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, but in...

Today's verses are Proverbs 14:28-31, which read, v.28 - In a multitude of people is a king's glory, but in the dearth of people is a prince's ruin. What is a dearth?  I had to look it up.  It is an ending or ceasing of something.  The good king is concerned with his people or subjects and therefore he rules with truth and justice and gains the loyalty and love of the people.  The prince is not as experienced as the king and many times doesn't understand the responsibility.  The prince will act selfishly and not in regard to the people and there is a ending or ceasing of their loyalty and love for the next in line.  The prince is cutting off the hand that is feeding him and probably thinking he knows better than his father, the king. So many times we are like the prince.  We lose focus on the reason we are here and that is to give glory unto God.  We are here to serve God by loving Him and loving others.  Instead of experiencing ...

Hi all, Just a blog post to update some things in our lives.  The first is the renovation of the platform space at Oglesby Union Church where we serve.  I will try to post of it decked out in all its Christmas decorations in the future.  We are very pleased on how the final product came out and it has proved to be more functional for the needs of the congregation. Next is an updated picture of our family from our recent trip to Kansas as a central location to get us all together for Thanksgiving.  I can not tell you how much I love each person in this picture.  I am amazed that God has blessed us with such a family!!  There are 15 in this picture for one is coming in February!!! The last picture is of the grandkids and they are grand.  Each one has his and her own personality and we are blessed to see them develop.  They all have parents that love Jesus and they hear His name often.   Thanks for being a part of our lives and I k...
