Thanksgiving post and Christmas is coming to Weymouth!!!
Before I forget, here is a great article on Thanksgiving! Read about a regional day, a national day, a heavy day, a happy day, and a thankful day.

The white board session of the "3 circles of Weymouth" produced a 57 minute sermon. It is a message that will be reproduced again with refinements because churches are similar because we are following the same book. This is not the only structure that churches follow but one very common one. Let me just share some of my highlights.
It was a time to look at the Elder circle this morning. Rather than going to the typical Timothy and Titus passages that list the qualities, we go to the Apostle Paul and Peter as they speak to other elders about how to live as elders.
Elders...
1. lead by example
2. teach from God's Word
3. care by connecting
4. protect from twisters
Sometimes elders come from all walks of life because God is the one who is calling them to lead His people. David was taken from shepherding his earthly father's flock to shepherd his heavenly Father's flock. Psalm 78:70-72
An elder is "...teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you;..." (Matthew 28:20a). Jesus had commanded an obedience of His disciples that they were already living out before teaching others what He had said for their response of obedience. An elder teaches others out of his own lived out example of obedience to God.
May we have a better understanding of what a biblical elder is according to the Scriptures. It is not what I think or what I feel or what I think might work best but it is based on what the Bible says. May we also carry this over to discussions about the other two circles of members and teams.
Happy Thanksgiving - Adam
