1 Corinthians 15:42-49 says...

Today's verses are 1 Corinthians 15:42-49, which read,

v.42-45 - So also is the resurrection of the dead.  It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.  If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.  So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living soul."  The last Adam, became a life-giving spirit.

Paul continues to answer the question about the resurrected body of the believer.  Yesterday it was that the physical body will be different than the resurrected body and that this is God's plan from the beginning to a life after this one for His believers to be with Him.

Paul now goes through some comparisons.  The physical body will break down and don't we all know that but the resurrected body will not have this quality, if we can call it that.  The physical body was born in sin and into a world of sin but the resurrected body will be raised holy and into a world of holy.  The physical body came as a baby needing others to survive but the resurrected body will be raised ready to worship before the throne of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul also takes us back to the comparison between the first Adam who was given physical life and the last Adam, Jesus, who gives others eternal life.  The fact that we have a natural body and the fact that Jesus was resurrected to a spiritual body is enough to say that we who are followers of Him will also do the same.

v.46-49 - However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual.  The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven.  As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.  Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.

Again, God has an order.  First comes the natural and then comes the spiritual.  The first Adam is the what our physical body is patterned after and the second Adam, Jesus, is what our resurrected spiritual body will be patterned after.  If we want to know what our resurrected bodies will be like, to answer the question in verse 35, then we need to look at Jesus' resurrected body.

All this is a mute subject if we have not bowed to Jesus as the Lord and Christ of our lives.  With that bowing, we serve Him as a living sacrifice while in these earthy bodies.  We bear the image of His physical life while waiting to bear the image of His resurrected life.  The main factor in believing the resurrection of the dead is Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.  It can be supported by nature and the persistent teaching of others like Paul but Jesus is the prime point that we hold onto.  As Jesus, so shall we.

"Lord, I have found a resting place for my faith in You.  Not just that You came and that You lived and that You taught and that You served and that You even died but that You rose again.  You gave a pattern for me to follow.  I am here and now I live what You taught and I will die someday but there will be a day when I rise again completely to be with You.  Amen."
