Coming to the Still Waters

Today's verses are Proverbs 10:17-20, which read, v.17 - He is on the path of life who heeds instruction, but he who ignores reproof goes astray. Counsel.  Do you seek it?  Are you listening to what people are saying to you?  Granted that the counsel you are receiving is based on God's Word and also that the one giving the counsel is someone who lives by God's Word to the best of their ability with God's help.  Are your ears open; your mind clear; you are taking notes; and your lips are shut to be a student of another?   To heed is to keep, guard, and observe.  This describes someone who has a love for God's Word as it applies to their life to be on that path of life.  To ignore is to leave, loose, or forsake.  This describes someone who applies God's Word when it works for them but then forsakes it when it says something that might mean they need to conform to it.  They go astray from the path of life, walking in the footsteps o...

Today's verses are Proverbs 10:13-16, which read, v.13 - On the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks understanding. The mouth is the focus again as the indicator of what is going on deeper in the heart.  The tongue is the exposer toward the end of the chain indicating results from fruitful wisdom or destructive foolishness.  The wise discern what they say and how they say it.  It is not that they don't say something critical, important, and timely but rather they share the truth which is core to wisdom with a love for those who will hear it.   Those who do not have a discerning tongue because they do not heed to the wisdom of God will receive discipline or the rod as it says in this verse.  Those who lack understanding of the truth and communicating it to others with sharing of God's grace and love will start to feel the discipline of the Lord.  That discipline is for the purpose to correct the act...

Today's verses are Proverbs 10:9-12, which read, v.9 - He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out. Other words for integrity are completeness or maturity as to ripen.  The wise walk, notice again another active movement, in total surrender and submission to God's wisdom and that produces security or safety or trust.  Security or safety or trust in what?  The answer is the wisdom of God.  Many times it looks like those who are perverted their ways, playing the system, or shading the truth are getting ahead but they will be found out.  Who will they be found out by?  They will be found out by the God of wisdom who is watching how they are walking.  The Hebrew word for " found out " is " yada " so when you use that expression " yada, yada " you are saying " I know, I know.
