2 Peter 2:1-3...The Jesus...The Gospel...The Bible (Red Flags!!!)

From red flags to red buds!!!  The Red Bud trees are in bloom in Texas and I have been enjoying them on my morning walks around a golf course on my vacation.  They pop with the new green that is emerging from the winter browns of this area.

Peter gives us some red flags to look out for that should pop out in light of the truth.  2 Peter 2:1-3 gives us 3 of them.

  • Beware of anyone making Jesus or God less than being God.
  • Beware of anyone giving another way or another gospel than the good news of Christ and by Christ.
  • Beware of anyone who replaces God's words (truth) with man's words (false).
Following our services we have smaller groups that go deeper for another 45 minutes about the passage.  I put together a discussion guide and included were some important Scriptures to read about Jesus, the Gospel, and the Bible.  How we "beware" of the red flags is to "be aware" of the One who shed His red blood.  Take some time to reacquaint yourself with the truth.

Going Deeper Discussion: 3/5/2023

Peter stresses our awareness of our salvation from God; our living out our saved lives to God’s glory; and our elevated view of the Scriptures as God’s very words to us.
How and why are these 3 important to our navigating a world that has false teachers?

How do false teachers make Jesus less than who He is?
What does the Bible say about Jesus?

Colossians 1:16-17 -
John 8:58 -
Matthew 28:20 -
Matthew 16:21 -
John 11:38-44 -

How do false teachers promote other ways to God?
What does the Bible say about the way?

Acts 4:12 -
1 Timothy 2:5 -
Philippians 2:9-11 -
Acts 13:38-39 -
John 14:6 -

How do false teachers elevate other books over the Bible?
What does the Bible say about the Bible?

John 17:17 -
2 Timothy 3:16-17 -
1 Corinthians 2:12-13 -
Matthew 5:18 -

It is discouraging that "many" follow them and are exploited by their false words.  May we stand on God's word, "more fully confirmed," over even our sensual experiences.  May we be ever aware of our salvation planned by God, purchased by Jesus' blood, and being polished by the Holy Spirit's guidance in truth.  May we be active in our saved lives as ones who are daily being transformed into Christ's likeness.  These 3 make the red flags of false teachers pop out to avoid.
